✈️ A Community Built Around Flight

For decades, the Pomona Valley Model Airplane Club (PVMAC) has brought together people who share a passion for radio-controlled flight. From first-time pilots taking off for the very first time to experienced flyers perfecting scale aircraft and jets, our club is about learning, sharing, and enjoying the hobby together.

Located at Prado Airpark, PVMAC offers a welcoming environment where safety, skill-building, and camaraderie come first. Whether you’re here to fly, learn, build, or just watch great airplanes in the air, you’ll find a place with us.

👥 Who We Are

PVMAC is a chartered AMA club dedicated to promoting radio-controlled aviation in a safe, friendly, and family-oriented setting. Our members come from all backgrounds and skill levels, united by a love of flight and craftsmanship.

We believe:

  • Everyone should feel welcome at the field
  • Learning should be encouraged and supported
  • Safety is essential to enjoying the hobby
  • Flying is better when it’s shared

🛠️ What We Fly

You’ll see a wide variety of aircraft at Prado Airpark, including:

  • Sport and scale airplanes
  • Warbirds and vintage models
  • Electric, glow, and gas-powered aircraft
  • Helicopters and EDF jets
  • Trainers for new pilots

Note: Turbine-powered aircraft are not permitted at Prado Airpark.

No matter what you fly — or want to fly someday — chances are someone here does too.

🎓 New to RC Flying? You’re Welcome Here

Getting started in RC aviation can feel intimidating, but you don’t have to do it alone.

PVMAC supports new pilots with:

  • Experienced members willing to help
  • Training and mentoring opportunities
  • Guidance on aircraft selection and setup
  • A safe, established flying site

Many of our members still remember their first flight — and they’re happy to help you make yours a success.

🎉 Club Activities & Events

Beyond everyday flying, PVMAC hosts a variety of activities throughout the year, including:

  • Fun-fly events
  • Club meetings
  • Special flying days and themed events
  • Social gatherings and swap meets
  • Community and youth outreach opportunities

These events are a big part of what makes PVMAC more than just a flying field — they make it a community.

🤝 Outreach in the Community

PVMAC’s home at Prado Airpark comes with a responsibility: to be a good neighbor and an active part of the community around us, not just a place to fly. Throughout the year, that shows up in a few ways:

  • Toys for Tots & Pancake Breakfast — an annual event where the club opens the field to the public, serves breakfast, and collects toy donations for children in need in the local community.
  • Open House & Eliminator Racing — a public event that invites neighbors, families, and newcomers to see RC flying up close, meet members, and learn about the hobby.
  • Free youth instruction — flight training is open to students age 10 and up at no cost, giving young people in the area a hands-on introduction to aviation.
  • NGCP Demo Day — PVMAC hosts Demo Day for the Northrop Grumman Collaboration Project (NGCP), a year-long engineering initiative where students from Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo design, build, and test autonomous vehicle systems under a real-world Request for Proposal sponsored by Northrop Grumman. Prado Airpark gives these student teams a real flying site to put their work to the test.
  • An open field policy — guests and first-time visitors are welcome to come watch, ask questions, and fly with a member before ever committing to membership.

These efforts are why PVMAC has remained a trusted, community-oriented presence at Prado Airpark for decades — and why we take that role seriously.

🧑‍🔧 Leadership & Volunteers

PVMAC is run by dedicated volunteers who help keep the club operating smoothly, the field maintained, and events organized.
